#14 Communal with SGAG co-founder Karl Mak

Our most recent Communal brought together over 40 business owners from a range of industries including B2B Tech, Hospitality, Human Resource, Food Manufacturing, Interior Furnishings as well as Fitness and Wellness. It was great to see so many new faces join us as we took another step towards building stronger connections between ACSian business owners, both young and old.

Attendees enjoyed a dinner of rustic, casual French fare with hearty mains and tasty sides from Summer Hill, helmed by the ever-charming Anthony Yeoh. It was the first official event held at the restaurant since it reopened at its larger (but no-less cosy) venue at Claymore Connect.

We were also joined by Karl Mak, co-Founder of SGAG, who provided a candid look into his journey building up one of Asia’s most recognised digital media and talent platforms from when it was first conceptualised with his businesses partner, Adrian, back in their university lecture halls. It was certainly an insightful session on the business of memes and entertainment for the next generation of consumers.

Big shoutout to Anthony and his team for making everyone feel warmly welcomed and special thanks to Karl for sharing his entrepreneurial experience.

If you’re an ACS business owner who’s interested in joining us at our next event in Oct, sign up over at www.abon.ac/signup and we’ll get you more details really soon. See you then!

How did ACSian business owners find the event?

“I really liked networking with other old boys, learning about some really innovative businesses they're involved in, getting inspired by the journeys others have had, and of course, great food!
The ACS spirit is a unique bond that we have. There is a lot we can learn from each other, and a lot of ways we can help one another, and that ACS spirit is a strong catalyst for interaction.”

“Was good to partake in the bonding and feel close to the AC community.
Entrepreneurship can be a lonely path and having a trust and bond to help deal with sometimes non-business related matters is a welcome element to our lives.”
